Brownie Points in Columbus

Tom and I recently made a visit to Brownie Points in Columbus.  Brownie Points is one of the stores listed in the Buckeye Treat Trail, which I have written about previously.  All the other stores were retail stores with bright, colorful exterior and a welcoming interior.  This place is a little different.

First, we had to find the store.  It is only open Monday through Friday from 9 to 4.  That was the first clue that this place was different.  Second, it was located in an area marked on Google Maps as “Industrial.”  Hmmm.  We found the industrial area and drove around and behind shipping docks until we finally located an awning that said “Brownie Bites.”  There wasn’t a good place to park – we just had to sandwich in among the trucks and dumpsters.

I knew that Brownie Points has a significant online presence from looking at their website.  I read all about the company and the delicious flavors before we headed there.  What I didn’t realize was that it isn’t really a store.  People place their orders online and then they can have them shipped or pick them up in person.  Fortunately the woman working at the desk among the shipping containers was very nice about explaining their procedure to us.  She also offered us a taste of the cookies and cream brownie.

The flavors available the day we visited

Brownie Points says “every batch baked from scratch.”  The brownies are baked, then cut up into bite-sized pieces and immediately sealed.  They don’t use any preservatives so they recommend eating them within six days or freezing them.  The website lists 30 flavors to choose from and these flavors change frequently.  Most of them include the same chocolate base but there are some pretty offbeat flavors as well.  The woman in the office explained that people like to try a lot of different flavors so they make the brownies small.  Each brownie bite is $1.85 with a discount on 20 or more.

Tom and I spent quite a bit of time looking at the different flavors and asking questions about them.  Then we made a list of ten flavors we wanted to try and got two of each.  We got Red Velvet, Peanut Butter and Caramel, Kitchen Sink, Buckeye Brownie, Raspberry Caramel Fudge, Classic Fudge, Oatlicious, Cooke Jar, Triple Chunk, and Cleveland Browns Crunch.  They also have buckeyes and the office worker threw in two of those for us to try.  When we got home, we set out some for John and Jackie and some for my mom and dad.  Then Tom set aside the ones that he considered his.

The brownies we kept to sample

Tom likes the Oatlicious best.  I have tried more of a variety and there hasn’t been a bad brownie in the collection.  The Buckeye Brownie is very good and I also really like the Triple Chunk.  The brownies are fudgy and rich.  Delicious!  They also have some gluten-free brownies.

Getting the 20 brownie bites was a little expensive, but they are the best brownies we have ever had.  I am limiting myself to two a day so that they will last longer.

The Brownie Points company started in Cleveland, and is the favorite brownie of the Cleveland Browns.  That’s a big endorsement because I’m sure the team could eat a lot of these!  A woman and her sister-in-law, both named Lisa, own the company.  The company is now based in Columbus, at the facility we visited.  They have two bakeries and over 40 employees.

Brownie Points brownies are a splurge, but they are perfect when you want to treat yourself (or someone you love) to a splurge.  Check out their website!
