The new 2020 Cadillac XT6 commercial begins with the line “Everyone has a crew. A stone cold, never-blink, walk in slow-motion crew.” I love to watch this commercial, not because I want to buy the Cadillac XT6, but because it shows people looking like rock stars walking in slow motion with their crew. The first time I watched the commercial, I realized I wanted a crew too. I want to be in a group walking in slow motion and looking cool.
Who is in your crew? I have a crew here at Fort Frederica of the other volunteers. We are a pretty cool group: four couples who have been all over the United States volunteering for the National Park Service. Lots of gray hair in this crew, but lots of years of experience too. Our crew loves the variety of tasks we do, giving back to the National Parks, and learning new things. I’m going to get someone to take one of those slow motion videos of us the next time we are all dressed in our historical clothes. That would be awesome!
I have another crew: my family. They are the people I always feel most comfortable with because they have known me through all the good and bad in my life. They know me as saint and sinner, wise woman and jerk and they love me anyway. We may not see each other as often as we would like, but we always know that “I’ve got your back.”
Two other crews are my Mogadore friends and my Wedgewood friends. The people I get together with whenever we can. And the people who go out of their way to come see us. We may be far apart in distance, but we always hold each other close in prayer.
For me, another crew is the fellowship of Christians. Worshiping together in a church makes us brothers and sisters in Christ. We may not know each other well, but I have seen church members go above and beyond for other people in a congregation, even people they didn’t know. Just that shared bond of love for Jesus Christ makes us part of a Christian crew.
Who is in your crew? Who do you consider a part of your “stone cold, never blink, walk in slow-motion crew”? These are the people who make us feel like we belong. They are a blessing from God and should always be cherished as a gift by us.
