As soon as I heard about The Yard Milkshake Bar in Columbus, I knew I had to get my dad there. Dad is the only person I know who likes ice cream (all sweets really) as much as I do. We have been waiting for the right time to go and recently got our chance. Aunt Anne and Uncle Paul were picking up Mom and Dad and coming down to see our house. Anne and Paul also like ice cream, so it seemed like the perfect time to visit The Yard.
The Yard Milkshake Bar was created by Logan and Chelsea Green. In 2011 Chelsea and her mother started their first ice cream shop, Island Ice Cream, which is still owned by Chelsea today. After years of working with ice cream and desserts, Chelsea and Logan decided to open a second ice cream shop in 2017.
Chelsea knew she wanted it to be like no other dessert place she had ever been to and decided that crazy specialty milkshakes is just what they were looking for. Chelsea and Logan opened The Yard Milkshake Bar in May of 2017 in Gulf Shores, Alabama. There are currently 31 franchised locations all over the United States. and were blown away by the positive reaction of the community and tourists alike in their hometown of Gulf Shores, AL. Making its debut on Shark Tank in 2019 and has since kept growing in popularity and demand!
The Yard Milkshake Bar currently has 31 locations across the United States. The one in Columbus is the only Yard Milkshake Bar in Ohio.
You want to be sure to look at the menu before you go. The crazy milkshake and sundae creations are eye-popping. The extra ingredients added to the specialties make them twice as high as their containers, so they can be a little challenging to eat. Dad and I had time to look at the menu choices while everyone else parked the cars.
Dad knew right away what he wanted. He said, “We came for milkshakes!” He ordered the Buckeye specialty shake. When I think of Buckeye, I think of peanut butter and chocolate, but this shake was based on the Ohio State colors, so it was scarlet and brown (gray). It had brownie sundae ice cream, butter crunch ice cream, mixed in chocolate milk. The container was rolled in chocolate with red sprinkles, then the whole thing was topped with whipped cream with two buckeye candies on a stick.
Uncle Paul ordered a strawberry milkshake and Tom got a scoop of vanilla ice cream with chocolate syrup. Aunt Anne got a single scoop of something. All of those were boring. Mom and I got more creative. I ordered the Brookie Batter Specialty Boss Bowl. It had brownie sundae and cookie dough ice cream, one scoop of each. Topping it was a chocolate chip cookie, a brownie, and a scoop of chocolate chip cookie dough with whipped cream and chocolate drizzle. Wow! Mom got a Peanut Butter Brownie Bliss Specialty Bowl with brownie sundae ice cream. The bowl was topped with a brownie, whipped cream, and chocolate and peanut butter sprinkles.
Mom and Dad both finished their specialties. Tom helped me out a little bit with mine. He had half the cookie, half the brownie, half the cookie dough, and a few bites of ice cream. Even with him eating all that, I felt like I had my limit of sugar for the week by the time I finished what was left. It is probably a good thing that The Yard Milkshake Bar is not very close to our house. Eating there regularly would not be a good thing.
We all enjoyed our creations, even those who were more conservative in their choices. It was fun to try out a place with such fancy ice cream choices. I’m not sure we will go back there, but we have all been sharing pictures of the ice cream with others.
