Another Broken Egg Café in Powell, Ohio

For Mother’s Day, John and Jackie took Tom and me to Another Broken Egg Café.  The location address says Powell, but it is just off US 23.  Conveniently located between both of our houses.

Another Broken Egg Café describes itself in this way on its website:  “Another Broken Egg Café Powell isn’t your typical breakfast, brunch, or lunch restaurant. Our passion is delivering uncompromising, southern-inspired culinary innovation and “craveably” delicious dishes. On our menu, you will find chef-inspired, breakfast, brunch, and lunch dishes as well as hand-crafted cocktails, spiked cold brews, mimosas and a full bar.”

Another Broken Egg Café is a chain restaurant with eight locations in Ohio.  The location in Powell only opened this year.  The chain was started in New Orleans in 1996 by a restauranteur father who wanted to be home in the afternoons with his son.  All of the locations are open from 7 a.m. until 2 p.m.  One of the unusual things about this concept was the full bar, which accounts for 15% of the sales.  That seems like a lot of drinking early in the day.

We went to Another Broken Egg Café midmorning on the Saturday before Mother’s Day. It was a good time to get there because the restaurant was busy but there wasn’t a line.  By the time we finished our meal, there was a line waiting for tables.  Our server was excellent.  He was attentive but was too busy to hover.  He made sure we had what we needed at the beginning and then left us alone.

The menu had so many yummy looking things that it was hard to choose while one to order.  We started our order with Biscuit Beignets.  Tom got an omelet and John got a scrambler.  Jackie ordered the Lemon Blueberry Goat Cheese pancakes and I got one of the house specialties, Cinnamon Roll French Toast.  This is how they described the Cinnamon Roll French Toast, “Thick-sliced, house-baked French-toast style cinnamon rolls topped with cream cheese icing, rum butter sauce drizzle, fresh seasonal berries and whipped cream.”

The beignets were delicious.  Not as airy as beignets from New Orleans because of the biscuit style dough.  The honey marmalade dipping sauce topped the beignets to perfection.  Tom and John said their eggs were very good and Jackie liked her pancakes.

But my Cinnamon Roll French Toast was the real winner.  It was like they took really good, doughy cinnamon rolls, sliced them in half, grilled them, and then added an apple and berry sauce with cream cheese drizzled all over.  I didn’t need any syrup because it was already so sweet.  There were four pieces of the french toast but I only ate two.  I ate the other two pieces for supper that night.  My sugar allotment for the week!  Mouthwatering both times.  I can’t eat it very often but I will be hard-pressed to find anything better to eat for brunch.

We enjoyed our meal at Another Broken Egg Café very much.  We didn’t linger over our food because there were so many people waiting for a table.  I am definitely looking forward to going back again.  When they say their food is craveable, they are right!
