St. Simons Island has lots of good restaurants. Even though we ate out often last year, we still have plenty of places that we haven’t tried. Sunday we tried a new place: Cafe Frederica.
Tom and I tried eating here last year on Easter. Unfortunately for us (good for them) the line was out the door and around the corner. So we went elsewhere. We wanted to give it another chance so we headed there after church on Sunday. Like many of the restaurants on the island, the Cafe is only open for breakfast and lunch.
When we arrived on Sunday, there was still a line, but we were second in line. Cafe Frederica isn’t very large and every table was filled. We put our names on the list and waited about 15 minutes for a table to open up. We were lucky to get there when we did, because the line got very long just after we arrived.
Tom and I both ordered breakfast items. I got the last order of blueberry stuffed french toast. Tom ordered an omelette. My parents both ordered sandwiches. The food was so good I forgot to take pictures! The blueberry stuffed french toast was delicious. I’m not a huge fan of cream cheese, but the blueberry / cream cheese mix was like a rich dessert. The homemade blueberry topping was the perfect compliment. Mom said the bread was homemade and excellent. Tom also really enjoyed his omelette, prepared just for him without any added salt.
Three out of the four of us ordered cokes with our meal. Dad noticed, before he ordered, what they looked like. I didn’t notice or I might have ordered tea instead. The cokes came in tiny 8 oz bottles. $2 each! We didn’t get refills. That was a little different.
Cafe Frederica has a counter where you can eat and also has a counter where you can purchase baked goods and deli sandwiches. The tables are very close together. But the service was fast and friendly and the food was yummy. We will certainly eat here again.
