Last week Tom and I went with John and Jackie to the Little Grand Market in Columbus for supper. We were going to a show (more on that later) and picked this unique place for supper before the show. I previously wrote about For the Love of Dough cookies and their shop is at the Little Grand Market. Their cookies are incredible and I had been wanting to try more flavors.
The Little Grand Market is a food court in the midst of a bunch of apartment buildings. There are eight “restaurants” in addition to For the Love of Dough. You order at one of the restaurants and they give you a pager so you can return when your food is ready.
Tom and I started by walking around to check out all the restaurants. We had our choice of Seoul Food on the Go (Korean), Preston’s: A Burger Joint, Pablo’s Havana Cafe (Cuban), Los Agaves Taqueria (Mexican), Lan Viet (Vietnamese), Just Chicken, Gants Pizza, Frascati Market (Italian), and Common Rice (Vietnamese).
Jackie and Tom both went for smash burgers at Preston’s. I decided on tacos at Los Agaves and John got sliders at Pablo’s. Once we had all ordered, we sat in a quiet, but dark, section of the food court. It was a good place for enjoying conversation, but a little hard to see the food.
John got his food first and let us all try some of the fried yucca. It tasted like french fries and it was very salty. Then Jackie got her food and I got mine. Tom didn’t get his until the rest of us were almost done eating. We attributed that to Preston’s being recently opened and still working out the kinks.
My little tacos were very good. I got three kinds of meat. The chicken was very dry, but the sirloin and pork were both delicious. The three little tacos were just the right size for my supper. Tom and Jackie both liked their burgers and John said his sliders were good. But none of the food was exceptional.
Except the cookies. Of course I got cookies. I got a triple chocolate mint cookie, a chocolate chip, and a blueberry cheesecake. All of us shared the chocolate chip cookie (they are very large cookies) and then I ate the mint and blueberry cookies over the next couple of days. So good! All the ingredients are the freshest and best available.
If we go back to the little Grand Market it will be because it is convenient to somewhere else. It is very similar to The Silos in Dayton, that I wrote about here. There is the opportunity to try lots of different kinds of food – and plenty of cookies for dessert.
