Have you ever noticed that Mothers’ Day is the sappiest, most sentimental holiday of the year? There is a reason why more people go out to eat on Mothers’ Day than any day of the year. And Mothers’ Day is second only to Valentine’s Day for flower sales. People with great moms are sentimental about them on Mothers’ Day. After all, mothers are a gift from God (usually).
There are, of course, those times when our mothers embarrass us or are themselves embarrassing. No one wants their mother to show baby pictures to the new girlfriend or boyfriend. Sometimes mothers kiss you in public.
But usually, moms are great. We inherit all kinds of things from them. Sometimes looks, sometimes a sense of humor, sometimes a way of moving. They feed us while we are growing up and make our favorite foods when we come to visit. Moms make sure we are presentable going out in public. They teach us manners, support us through everything, and have our backs. Nothing is fiercer than a mom when her child has been hurt by someone.
So, today, to celebrate Mothers’ Day, I want to give a shout-out to all the wonderful moms I know. You are strong, powerful, fierce, and faithful. You juggle more tasks than the most skilled multi-taskers. And, whether you have one child, ten children, or just love the kids around you, you are a blessing.
“She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.” Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” Proverbs 31:26-31.
In honor of all the moms I know – here are a some pictures of just a few incredible moms.
Happy Mothers’ Day!
