Panda House Chinese and Sushi

While we were in Ohio, Tom and I had supper with John and Jackie at Panda House Chinese and Sushi restaurant.  Although the restaurant has been open since 2000, we had never eaten there before.  I am always trying to find Chinese food as good as New Ming Home in Akron.  I’m not sure if New Ming Home was really the best Chinese ever or if I have just inflated it in my memory.

Panda House is a mid-sized restaurant in a strip mall close to Polaris.  We haven’t found a favorite Chinese restaurant in Columbus yet.  Teriyaki Madness is a favorite, but isn’t really Chinese.  We liked a couple of restaurants that were just too far away to eat at regularly.  Consequently, I was looking forward to trying Panda House.

We met at Panda House for supper on a Monday.  The restaurant wasn’t busy but there were lots of people stopping by for take-out orders.  Only a few tables were filled.  The menu is extensive, with a lot of food served in a variety of ways.  They also have a gluten-free menu.  I ordered a chicken and vegetable stir-fry.  Tom decided to try the General Tso’s Chicken.  Jackie ordered the orange chicken.  John got sushi and nigiri.

We all enjoyed our meals.  Although I didn’t feel like my stir-fry was anything special, Tom said his General Tso’s was the best he had ever had.  We each tried a bite of Jackie’s orange chicken, which was good.  John ate all his sushi and nigiri so it must have been good.

The service at Panda House wasn’t great.  They had several signs up about hiring more help, so they may have been short-staffed.  There was a waitress, a bus-girl, and a cook.  Those were the only employees that we saw.  We had to ask to have our drinks refilled.  When our check came, there were four fortune cookies, which we enjoyed reading and eating.

I would eat at Panda House again, but it isn’t going to overtake New Ming Home on my favorite list.  Have you eaten at Panda House?  What did you think?
