Brassica Sandwiches and Salads

The week before my surgery, Tom and I met John and Jackie at Brassica Sandwiches and Salads at Easton Town Center.  Although John and Jackie have eaten there several times, Tom and I had not been before.  I think Jackie picked it in her never-ending quest to expand my palate.

Brassica Sandwiches and Salads is known for its dedication to the genus of plants known as brassicas.  Brassicas are cruciferous vegetables.  Some common examples are bok choybroccoliBrussels sproutscauliflowercabbagecollard greenskalekohlrabiturnip and the condiment mustard.  The restaurant was founded in Columbus in 2015. It features traditional Mediterranean flavors with a commitment to organic and sustainable practices.  They source as much of their ingredients as possible from local farmers.

When we first walked in Brassica, we walked up to a counter where we could order a salad, a sandwich, or hummus.  I ordered a salad, then picked a chicken to go on top.  As we went through the line, I added other toppings.  I got pickled cucumbers and roasted carrots.  No need to go crazy on my first visit.  Tom ordered a pita sandwich with brisket, roasted carrots.  John and Jackie got things that I can’t describe, although I know Jackie’s was the hummus base.  They also got a pita and a tahini cookie for us to share.

My salad was very good and just a little spicy.  It was also very colorful.  I appreciated eating some of the delicious pita to tone down the spices a little.  Tom liked his sandwich a lot as well.  Neither of us felt like we had too much and we really enjoyed what we had.

The night we met John and Jackie was one of the last really warm nights of the summer, so after dinner we walked through Easton a bit to go to Graeters for a scoop of ice cream.

We enjoyed eating at Brassica and would gladly join John and Jackie there again.  Knowing a little more about the menu, I can be more adventurous next time.
