Fort Frederica was recently awarded the Clean Sweep Award by the Keep Golden Isles Beautiful Committee. Our site supervisor, Ranger Steve, asked Tom and I to go and accept the award because I do the roadside cleanup and Tom has done so much to improve the grounds. The award is presented quarterly by the Keep Golden Isles Beautiful Committee, the Brunswick Chamber of Commerce, and The Brunswick News.
This was the first time Fort Frederica received the award. In addition to a quarterly award, you can also get a five year and ten year award after you get the quarterly award. Something to aim for five years from now.
The Clean Sweep Awards were the first item on the agenda for the Chamber of Commerce in January. Tom and I had to be there at 8:30 a.m. to receive the award. SCA intern Sydne and Ranger Michael were also there. Because we were the agenda item, it didn’t take long. The Keep Golden Isles Beautiful Chair, Lea King-Badyna made the presentation, we got the award, and then we walked out. After all the awards were given, the Brunswick News took a picture of the total group.
Fort Frederica and The Wick both received quarterly awards – a shadow box with a broom in it. Glynn County Airport Commission and Grandy’s Country Cupboard were each honored with five-year awards. The College of Coastal Georgia received the Clean Sweep 10-year award. They deserve it because their campus is a bright spot in Brunswick.
Tom and I were proud to accept the Clean Sweep award on behalf of Fort Frederica. All the volunteers and maintenance staff work hard to make the park a place of beauty. Visitors regularly tell us how beautiful and peaceful the park is. We have lots of locals who walk through regularly because it is a beautiful place to take a walk.
