Elliots Wood Fired Kitchen and Tap

When Tom and I were in Ohio, John and Jackie suggested we meet at Elliots Wood Fired Kitchen and Tap for supper.  They had eaten there once and thought it was good enough for a return visit with us.

Elliots Wood Fired Kitchen & Tap is a family-owned restaurant that originated in Newark in 2017.  They expanded to Pataskala in 2021 and New Albany in 2022. In early 2025, they announced their expansion into Powell, taking over the former Liberty Tavern space. The Powell location opened in April.

Elliots is known for its wood-fired pizzas, but also offers a variety of other dishes like wings, Bavarian pretzels, salads, subs, smash burgers, and street tacos, along with a full bar.  The pizzas only come in one size, which cuts down on ordering indecision.  We heard their pizzas were very good, so I decided to try one of those.  John also got a pizza.  Jackie got a salad and Tom ordered a meatball sub.  We also got cheese curds as a starter.

The pizza was very good, with a thin crust that was crisp as well as chewy.  Tom ate all his meatball sub, including all the bread.  Very unusual.  I wasn’t able to eat all the pizza and sent the rest home with John and Jackie because we were heading back to Kentucky the next morning.  We were so busy eating the delicious cheese curds that I almost forgot to take a picture before they were gone.

Our server was very good, just the right amount of attentive.  The only thing I didn’t like about Elliots was the noise and the spacing of the tables.  It isn’t a large restaurant, so they have everyone crowded together.  We had to bump into the people next to us to get to our seats.  And then we ended up in conversations with them because they were so close.

We were there on a Wednesday and the restaurant was very busy.  It was so noisy, I couldn’t hear half of what Jackie was saying on the other side of the table.  I know my hearing isn’t what it used to be, but we go out to supper for the conversation as well as the food.

The food was really good at Elliots.  If John and Jackie suggest going there again, I would be in favor – but maybe get it to go.  That way I can enjoy the food and the conversation.
