For my birthday, John and Jackie took me out to eat at the Barn at Rocky Fork in Gahanna. This gift combined three of my favorite things: my family, a new restaurant, and brunch. During the time I served as a pastor, we ate out every Sunday after church. I still want to eat out after church. This was actually the second week in a row that John and Jackie met us for brunch after church, so it was a double gift!
The Barn at Rocky Fork sounds very upscale and its prices gave that impression as well. We were a little surprised to arrive at the Barn and find that it was attached to Rockwood dry cleaners and alterations. Weird. We went into the restaurant and waited a little while for our table. John and Jackie had made a reservation, but we decided to wait for a table on the main floor instead of one upstairs. I’m doing well after my surgery but we all decided steps with plates of food was probably a bit much.
Our waitress took our drink orders and then forgot to bring them. We also wanted some pancakes and omelets, which you special order. We had to tell her that we wanted to order some instead of her asking. The brunch was a big layout and everything was very well labeled. I took very small portions of many things so I could try them. Everything was very good, especially the macaroni and cheese.
By the time I finished my plate, my pancake came. The pancake was perfect. Crispy edges and done very well inside. I was so full from the other food that I could only eat half of it. John and Jackie said that I needed to try the chocolate cake – for my birthday – so I returned to the buffet again. The second time there is when I noticed the fruit and salad in another area. Darn. I usually start with that good stuff. I got a tiny piece of carrot cake (no nuts) and a piece of chocolate cake for Tom (because it had nuts). I also added a few grapes to my plate.
We enjoyed our brunch at the Barn at Rocky Fork. It was a long way to go but a fun atmosphere with good food and great company. On the way home, we got to enjoy the first snowfall of the season.
