Today is time to get our thinking caps on. I have collected some deep thoughts over the last year and want to share them with you. This is not a skimming post. You can skip it, but you can’t skim it. I invite you to take a little time to read it and use those thinking caps to consider the quotes I have included. Although my favorite quotes are Bible verses, I also run across some good things in the books I read.
Here are some thoughts for you to consider.
Bertrand Russell said, “The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, and wiser people so full of doubts.”
“If we befriend death, it becomes a “familiar guest instead of a threatening stranger.” Henri Nouwen in “A Letter of Consolation”
“We are put on earth a little space,
That we may learn to bear the beams of love” from “Little Black Boy” by William Blake
“One can only love God, and through his Grace, come to love his people.” Jennifer Worth in “Call the Midwife”
Rudyard Kipling in “The Jungle Book.” “We are great. We are free. We are wonderful. We are the most wonderful people in all the jungle! We all say so, and so it must be true,” say the monkeys.“
Norman Vincent Peale in “The Power of Positive Thinking,” “You can’t be physically healthy until you are spiritually healthy.“
“Part of being an adult is taking responsibility for resting your body and your soul. And part of being an adult is learning to meet your own needs, because when it comes down to it, with a few exceptions, no one else is going to do it for you.” Shauna Niequist in “Present Over Perfect”
Focus on the Family: “Boys have two competing impulses: to be the hero or to blow things up. A Christian father helps a boy channel those impulses.“
Suleika Jaouad in “Between Two Kingdoms”: “Grief is a ghost that visits without warning. It comes in the night and rips you from your sleep. It fills your chest with shards of glass. It interrupts you mid-laugh when you’re at a party, chastising you that, just for a moment, you’ve forgotten. It haunts you until it becomes a part of you, shadowing you breath for breath.“
and finally,
“Found the secret of immortality. Took it with him to the grave.” Headstone in Scotland
