The only restaurant we tried in Copper Harbor was the Lake Effect Bar and Grill, but it was a good place to eat. We were hungry after walking around Fort Wilkins Historic State Park and then walking from one end to the other of Copper Harbor. If you look at TripAdvisor, Lake Effect Bar and Grill is #9 out of 10 restaurants in Copper Harbor. We had walked by a couple of the other places but didn’t want to try eating there. Jamesen’s Fish Market and Bakery just didn’t sound appealing, even though they get great ratings.
Lake Effect Bar and Grill is located next to the Lake Fanny Hooe Resort and Campground and it was a little confusing which was which. We found the correct entrance and walked into a nice dining room with a full bar. The decor was basic, but it was clean and the server/bartender was friendly and welcoming.
Lake Effect Bar and Grill specializes in burgers which was fine with us. There are six different half-pound “smash” burgers served on a brioche bun. The burgers come with a side of fries, chips, or coleslaw. The burgers were good, hot and juicy. The fries were crisp and fresh. It wasn’t a memorable meal, but it was one that we enjoyed very much.
When we first went into the restaurant, we were the only ones there. We had started early that morning because of rain forecast for later, so we were at Lake Effect Bar and Grill shortly after it opened. As we enjoyed our lunch, the other tables filled up. We asked our server if the restaurant was open all year. No, like most things, it was only open from the middle of May through the middle of October. Our server would be returning to Milwaukee in a couple of weeks to a restaurant there. But he liked mountain biking and enjoyed being in Copper Harbor during the summer.
Tom and I lingered over our lunch because Lake Effect Bar and Grill had something we had struggled to find in Copper Harbor – WIFI! We checked email, sent texts, and read up on the news while seated comfortably in the restaurant. Lake Effect Bar and Grill might be rated #9 by TripAdvisor, but Tom and I thought it was #1 in Copper Harbor.
