Donnas Delicious Dozen was our third stop on the Buckeye Treat Trail. Despite being the third, it was first in the deliciousness of the treats we tried.
Donnas Delicious Dozen is located right on the edge of Columbus, New Albany, and Gahanna. We stopped there on a cold and rainy Saturday afternoon. We had already been to the Yarnologist for Stitch and Chatter and to Lynd Fruit Farm to get some apples. Both Tom and I had planned on getting some baked goods at Lynd’s, but they were getting ready to close for the season and didn’t have anything yummy. Based on that disappointment, we decided to try Donnas.
Traci Lukemire opened Donnas Delicious Dozen in 2019. She named the store after her grandmother, Donna, who is one of her favorite people. Traci recently added a food truck that can be hired for special events.
Donnas Delicious Donuts makes each donut fresh, when it is ordered. Then the customer picks toppings and, if desired, fillings. The first thing Tom and I noticed when we entered was the wonderful smell. We could watch the cake donuts dropping into the fryer and see our donut coming out perfectly done. After studying the extensive menu, I ordered a Choco Dip, Choco Chip donut, and Tom got the Pecan Fancy with maple icing, pecans, and caramel drizzle.
As the donuts came out of the fryer, our server dipped them in the icing and then added the toppings. The donuts were warm and everything was melty, gooey, and delicious. We ate them there because we wanted to experience them warm. Tom took a few bites and said, “This is the best donut I have ever had.” I agreed.
We went to Donnas Delicious Dozen because they were supposed to have a Buckeye donut. We didn’t see it on the menu so we asked our server about it. She said they change donut specials regularly and the Buckeye donut had been up there during the summer. But she added that they had all the ingredients and could make one anytime. The server also told us that they were going to have a chocolate donut in December. One more reason to return.
Tom and I enjoyed the donuts so much we thought about getting more. But then we decided that we weren’t that far from our house and could come back anytime. And we will certainly be back. In addition to having the best donuts, Donnas Delicious Dozen is a woman-owned, black-owned business and deserves our support. Stop by and try them if you are in the area. I know you will want to go back.
