As you know, Tom and I enjoy adventuring with my parents whenever possible. Although Mom and Dad are in their 80’s, they are very active and fun to be with. When we are in Ohio we have as many adventuring days together as we can schedule.
In line with their adventurous spirits, Mom and Dad came down to St. Simons for the entire month of February. They rented a lovely, renovated two-bedroom cottage on the south end of the island through Airbnb. Wesley was their host, and he did a great job for them. He made sure they knew how to use everything and was around daily to answer questions if they needed him.
The location of their cottage was wonderful. Dad took a bike ride every morning and they could walk (or ride) to the beach. There were restaurants within walking distance and everything else they wanted was an easy drive away.
Of course, we loved having them here on St. Simons because it meant we could continue adventuring together. They visited us at work at least once a week and accompanied us on our trip to Wormsloe. We went to Jekyll Island, St. Augustine, and Savannah and checked out all the forts along the way. We went to concerts and movies and explored new restaurants together.
One of our favorite things to do together is play games, so we played dominoes, Euchre, and TransAmerica. We even tried some National Parks Travel Trivia. Mom went with me to the Stitchery – where I bought lots of yarn and she bought some needles. We watched the Super Bowl together and talked about the Oscars.
Unfortunately, February is the shortest month and our February together flew by. On our last day together we rode bikes on the Hampton Spur, played one last game of dominoes, and shared a supper (cleaning out their refrigerator). Mom and Dad kept us updated as they traveled back to Ohio through several severe storms.
Tom and I are so blessed to be able to go adventuring with Mom and Dad. No matter what we are doing, we have a great time. We loved having them here for the month and sharing wonderful days together.
