During our weekend in Hocking Hills, the Hartleys enjoyed at meal at Millstone Southern Smoked BBQ in Logan. We had been out hiking in the morning, washed the dirty dog, explored downtown Logan and worked up an appetite. Whenever we drive along 33, we see Millstone Southern Smoked BBQ along the road and think it looks like a great place to eat. We finally got to try it.
Millstone Southern Smoked BBQ smokes its meats for 15 to 17 hours in order to get the most tender brisket, ribs, and pulled pork. I couldn’t find out how long they have been open, but they get good reviews on TripAdvisor. They are ranked #3 of restaurants in Logan. They are especially known for their corn muffins.
The restaurant was busy at 2 p.m. when we arrived but we were seated promptly and our waitress was attentive without being intrusive. She took our drink orders and prepared them while we studied the menu. I was disappointed to see that corn muffins weren’t on the menu anyplace. But when our waitress brought our drinks, she also brought a basket of hot corn muffins with butter. They were the perfect size – just a few bites – and we rapidly polished off most of the basket.
Tom ordered a brisket sandwich. Jackie ordered macaroni and cheese with brisket. John ordered a sampler platter with beans and coleslaw. I ordered a BBQ chicken dinner. The food was good, although not the best BBQ we have ever had. My chicken was a little dry and tough. The brisket was good. Tom’s sandwich was disappointing because it barely had any brisket on it. Is the price of beef affecting how much brisket they serve? John’s serving of pulled pork was generous compared to the stingy brisket. Jackie enjoyed her macaroni and cheese and my broccoli side was good.
The best part of the meal was definitely the corn muffins and I would go back because of those. If I go back, I will order pulled pork instead of brisket or chicken. It is what Millstone Southern Smoked BBQ does best.
The rest of our weekend was filled with football games, card games, and board games. We enjoyed our weekend together in Hocking Hills and I look forward to similar Christmas presents in the future.
