HangOverEasy Diner in Dublin, Ohio

On Saturday I had a delightful breakfast at HangOverEasy Diner in Dublin, Ohio.  Tom and I went with John and Jackie to the Dublin Market at Bridge Park.  It was the first “farmer’s market” of the season and will continue every Saturday from 9 until 12 through the end of September.  We went to one in November, and enjoyed it so much that I wanted to go again.

We got to the Dublin Market about 9:15 and it was already packed with people.  It was also cold!  I felt bad for the vendors sitting in the shade and battling the breeze that blows down Longshore Drive.  The sunshine felt really good and we took advantage of the pockets that we found along the street.

When we went to the market in November, we had a breakfast sandwich at one of the booths.  It is the only booth that sold fresh-made food and the sandwiches were good.  Their grill and the smells coming from the grill entice people to get in line.  When we got to their booth at 9:30, there was already a line with about 40 people.  Although the sandwiches are good, they aren’t that good.

We wandered around the Dublin Market and checked out all the booths.  We got some cookies at Angie’s Rainbow Cookies and at For the Love of Dough.  I also bought some bagels.  After looking at all the booths, John suggested going to HangOverEasy for breakfast.  I was the only one who ate breakfast, but I was game to try a new place.  John said it had just opened.

What we didn’t know was that HangOverEasy had just opened THAT MORNING!  We were there on its first day of operations!  Although it was very busy – people coming in out of the cold from the Dublin Market – it also has lots of seating and we got a booth right away.  I wanted some hot tea to warm up my hands.  Although it was on the menu, they couldn’t find their teabags.  Always a few glitches on opening day.

The menu had so many delicious-looking choices that it was hard to decide.  Tom ordered scrambled eggs, fried potatoes and sausage.  I ordered cinnamon roll french toast.  Jackie chose the creme brule waffle.  John got the dirty burrito.  After we ordered we enjoyed looking around the restaurant.  It isn’t completely decorated yet, but the booths were comfortable.

HangOverEasy has six locations in Ohio.  The first location was opened near the Ohio State Campus in 2002.  Originally named “Nick’s” it was rebranded as HangOverEasy in 2007 and, with the name change, became a go-to place.  They specialize in fresh-made breakfast food, giving a creative twist to comfort food.

Our food came quickly and was very good.  My cinnamon roll french toast was such a generous serving that I immediately asked for a to-go container and divided it before I even started eating.  All of us managed to polish off most of the food on our plates.  The manager came around to ask us about our experience.  We complemented him on the food and the service.  Our waitress was excellent, especially for just opening.  He had obviously trained his staff very well.

Although we had not planned on having breakfast out, HangOverEasy was an excellent place to eat.  It is definitely a place I would enjoy going back to.  The restaurant is open every day from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m.
